The Centre for Learning Innovation in New South Wales, Australia has developed an online multimedia scientific investigation for students in Australia and overseas called "Murder under the Microscope". Students compete to try to be the first to find the ecological "villain", “victim” and “crime site” and to plan a remediation solution.
The investigation contest starts April 29 and registration is free for the first ten (10) US or overseas teams or classes who sign up and mention that they saw it on We The Teachers! (It normally costs $66 per team or class.)
This year's case is called Crisis on the Coast. The website includes a detailed timeline, teacher planning materials, examples of past cases, and lots of multimedia resources for both teachers & students to use during the investigation. Clues are progressively released as the investigation develops. It looks like a great way to get your students excited about scientific research and how they can make positive change to help the environment!
For more information, check out www.microscope.edu.au
If you're interested in signing up, send your school name, school address, email address, and a team name to catchment.hq@det.edu.au and mention that you saw it here on We The Teachers! |
